Florida’s kindergartners are showing showing early literacy skills according to a report released by the Florida Department of Education.
The rating system used to measure literacy skills involved the following categories:
- Demonstrating - the child demonstrated what he or she should know and be able to do at the beginning of kindergarten
- Emerging/Progressing - the child demonstrated some of the skills he or she needs to know or be able to do at the beginning of kindergarten
- Not Yet Demonstrating - appropriate skill development was not yet demonstrated during the screening
Florida kindergarten children rating results included; 48% Demonstrating, 40%Emerging/Progressing and 12% Not Yet Demonstrating.
